Building on the previous session, the focus here is on fine tuning our decisions which have been informed by the control-cost analysis so they include a greater recognition of our own unique individuality. The first of our two exploration exercises is designed to help participants notice how things can be perceived differently when they pay attention. The second is an exercise designed to specifically encourage participants to choose how they can incorporate the characteristics they would like to have. The tools developed in this session start by looking at Practical mindfulness, with exercises to help explore the idea that mindfulness (and mindful meditation) are practical techniques to help us take control over our thinking and perception. The second, the individuality of happiness has a focus on helping participants understand and explore that living life well looks different for different people. This should support participants to recognise that other people may inspire, challenge and encourage, but that they should not be held up as what we need to be to enjoy life or be ‘successful’.
