Here’s some examples of open ended non-judgemental questions which can be useful when working with people: Tell me more about ... ? How might ... work? What other ways could you look at this? Do you have any questions about … ? What has led to you thinking … ? How do you feel about … ? What do you think about … ? You might have noticed that none of these questions start with ‘why?’. Whilst why can be a useful question for helping someone to explore and reflect, when someone is feeling stuck it can be unhelpful as it can make the person look inward when they need to move forward.
